Importing into Equatorial Guinea from Tunisia: Malabo, Bata, ECTN and CEMAC rules

MWB TRADING offers importers, distributors and companies in Equatorial Guinea products from Tunisia for power networks, buildings and construction sites: power and building cables, transformers and MV/LV substations, LED lighting, water pipes and fittings, tiles and sanitaryware, generators and pumps. Goods leave from Radès (Tunis) or Sfax, and our offers are made delivered to the port of Malabo or Bata, on CFR or CIF terms.

This guide brings together the verified points for importing into Equatorial Guinea: the two ports of arrival, Malabo on Bioko Island and Bata on the mainland, the electronic cargo tracking note (ECTN) that carriers require for the country, the original bill of lading demanded by customs, CEMAC rules on customs duties and payment, and what to state in your enquiry.

LOGISTICS AND DOCUMENTS

Importing through the ports of Malabo and Bata

Ports and routes

Container lines serve two ports in Equatorial Guinea: Malabo, the capital, on Bioko Island, and Bata, on the mainland. From Radès or Sfax, containers reach either port with transhipment depending on the carrier, for example on a feeder service from a regional port. Sea delivery ends at the port: transport to the site is arranged separately. Choose the port closest to where the goods will be used: Malabo for Bioko, Bata for the mainland.

Import documents

Carriers state that an electronic cargo tracking note (ECTN) is required for shipments to Equatorial Guinea; the body that validates it and the deadline do not appear in the official sources consulted, so have them confirmed by your freight forwarder before loading. Customs require the original bill of lading, as copies are refused, and a manifest that does not match the bill of lading exposes the consignee to a fine. Under the CEMAC foreign exchange regulation, every import of goods is covered by an import declaration and, above a value threshold, is domiciled with a bank in the country. MWB prepares the commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin and technical data sheets.

Inspection and conformity

Customs clearance runs on ASYCUDA World, rolled out to all customs offices in 2025: at the port of Bata since November 2024 and at the port of Malabo since March 2025. The system assigns each declaration a level of control and allows post-clearance checks. No pre-shipment inspection programme specific to the country appears in the sources consulted; your freight forwarder will confirm whether a certificate or authorisation is required for your products. Spanish and French are among the official languages: plan documents and instructions in one of them.

What to specify

State the port of arrival, Malabo or Bata, and the final delivery point; the references, quantities and required standards; the rating and voltages of electrical equipment; the preferred Incoterm, CFR or CIF, or FOB on request; and the date by which the goods must be available.

Availability, transport, lead times and documents are confirmed in each offer.

YOUR QUESTIONS

Your questions about importing into Equatorial Guinea from Tunisia

Is an ECTN required for Equatorial Guinea?

Yes, according to carriers, which require an electronic cargo tracking note (ECTN) for sea shipments to Equatorial Guinea. The validating body and the deadline are not specified in the official sources consulted: your freight forwarder will confirm the procedure before loading, using the shipping documents prepared by MWB.

Malabo or Bata: which port should I choose?

Malabo serves the capital and Bioko Island; Bata serves the mainland. Both ports receive containers, with transhipment depending on the carrier. Choose the port closest to where the goods will be used: the offer is made delivered to that port, and onward transport is assessed separately.

Which customs duties apply to goods from Tunisia?

Equatorial Guinea is a member of CEMAC, a customs union whose common external tariff applies to goods from non-member countries such as Tunisia; domestic taxes are added. A joint ECCAS-CEMAC common external tariff, adopted in October 2024, has applied in Cameroon since January 2026; its implementation in Equatorial Guinea, like any AfCFTA preferences for Tunisian origin, should be checked with your freight forwarder.

How is payment for an import handled?

The CEMAC foreign exchange regulation, in force since 2019, requires an import declaration for every import of goods and, above a value threshold, domiciliation of the transaction with a bank in Equatorial Guinea. Arrange these steps with your bank as soon as you receive our offer.

Can you group several product families or ship small quantities?

Yes, when the products and their packaging allow: cables and lighting, or tiles, sanitaryware and adhesives, can share a 20 or 40-foot container. Small volumes travel as groupage, and urgent small quantities can be sent by air from Tunis-Carthage on request.
