LOGISTICS AND DOCUMENTS

Importing through the port of Abidjan

Ports and routes

Our shipments to Côte d’Ivoire leave from Radès (Tunis) or Sfax and are discharged at the port of Abidjan; San-Pédro is the country’s other major port. For an urgent part, air freight is possible: in February 2022, a machine spare part travelled from Tunis-Carthage airport to Abidjan. For delivery beyond the port, state the receiving location: onward transport from Abidjan is assessed separately.

Loading formats

20-foot containers for plaster, in lots whose schedule is set in the offer. 40-foot High Cube containers for cellulose pulp and, in most cases, for bulky nonwovens; 20-foot containers for some lots of adhesives and nonwovens.

Import documents

Sea freight must be covered by a cargo tracking note (BSC), issued from the port of loading on the platform of the Ivorian Shippers’ Council (OIC): an application made on arrival is not accepted. The importer files an import declaration (FDI) on the foreign trade single window (GUCE), validated before the goods arrive, then obtains the final classification and valuation report (RFCV) before clearance, above a value threshold. The commercial invoice in French, packing list, bill of lading and certificate of origin in duplicate complete the file.

Inspection and conformity

Products in the regulated families, including building materials, electrical products, packaging and textiles, must be accompanied by a certificate of conformity issued before shipment, after inspection in the country of departure; Customs require it for clearance. Since 1 July 2026, the programme also covers chemicals. Inputs for local industry pre-registered with the monitoring committee used to be exempt: check that this still applies, and the HS code of each product, with the inspection body.

What to specify

Plaster quantities and the preferred schedule for the lots; for raw materials, references, basis weights, technical data sheets and quantities; the receiving location.

Availability, transport, lead times and documents are confirmed in each offer.

YOUR QUESTIONS

Your questions about importing into Côte d’Ivoire from Tunisia

Can you ship plaster in regular lots?

Yes. In 2023, our plaster lots in 20-foot containers left for Abidjan between April and November, from Radès (Tunis) or Sfax depending on the shipping line and the date. The schedule for each lot is agreed with you in the offer.

Which cargo tracking note is needed for Abidjan?

A cargo tracking note (BSC), requested from the port of loading on the platform of the Ivorian Shippers’ Council, with which the exporter, the freight forwarder and the importer must be registered. An application made on arrival is not accepted.

Does plaster need a certificate of conformity?

Plaster is a building material, a family regulated by the verification of conformity programme: the certificate is issued before shipment, after inspection in the country of departure, and Customs require it for clearance. Since 1 July 2026, all HS codes in the regulated families have been covered unless expressly excluded: check the code of each product with the inspection body.

Which duties apply on import?

The WAEMU and ECOWAS common external tariff, from 0 to 35% depending on the product and calculated on the CIF value, plus a 1% statistical fee and 18% VAT. Other levies may apply depending on the product: your customs broker confirms them.

Do you ship industrial raw materials?

Yes. In 2021 and 2022, we shipped cellulose pulp, nonwovens, adhesives, elastic threads and films for the manufacture of hygiene products, in 20-foot or 40-foot High Cube containers.

Can you send urgent parcels by air?

Yes. In February 2022, a machine spare part travelled from Tunis-Carthage airport to Abidjan. State the weight and dimensions of the parcels: the shipping method is proposed in the offer.
