Our offers for Sierra Leone leave from Radès (Tunis) or Sfax and are made delivered to the port of Freetown, on CFR or CIF terms, with transhipment depending on the shipping line. In Freetown, merchant ships berth at the Queen Elizabeth II Quay, the country’s main point of entry, under the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority established by a 2023 act. For delivery inland, state the receiving location: onward transport after the port is assessed separately.
Import documents
Since 1 January 2023, an approved CTN (cargo tracking note) certificate has been required: according to shipping lines, it must be presented at the latest when the bill of lading is released, and some ask for it at loading. The file includes the commercial invoice, bill of lading, packing list and certificate of origin, prepared by MWB for the shipment. The importer, who holds a tax identification number from the National Revenue Authority, has a customs broker lodge the declaration on ASYCUDA World; an electronic single window has been in place since 2020.
Inspection and conformity
Most imports undergo destination inspection, which checks quality, quantity, value and tariff classification before clearance; according to the WTO (2025), this programme is run by a single company, Integrated Trade Services. The Sierra Leone Standards Bureau (SLSB) reviews labelling and certificates of conformity before release; high-risk categories, including electronics, are tested. Labels must be in English, and national standards draw on ISO, IEC and ECOWAS standards.
What to specify
References and quantities, required standards or specifications, site voltage and frequency, packaging, delivery point (port of Freetown or an inland address) and preferred Incoterm: CFR, CIF or FOB.
Availability, transport, lead times and documents are confirmed in each offer.

Your questions about importing into Sierra Leone from Tunisia
Which cargo tracking document is needed for Freetown?
A CTN (cargo tracking note) certificate. According to shipping line notices, it has been required since 1 January 2023 and must be presented at the latest when the bill of lading is released; some lines ask for it at loading. It is obtained through an accredited agent: your freight forwarder confirms the current procedure.
Are goods inspected on arrival?
Yes. Most imports go through destination inspection, which checks quality, quantity, value and tariff classification before clearance. The Sierra Leone Standards Bureau also reviews labelling, which must be in English, and certificates of conformity; electronics are among the categories that are tested.
Which customs duties apply to Tunisian products?
Sierra Leone’s customs tariff is aligned with the ECOWAS Common External Tariff, in five bands from 0 to 35% depending on the product, plus GST and the ECOWAS levy among other charges. As Tunisia is not an ECOWAS member, this tariff applies in principle. Sierra Leone ratified the AfCFTA in 2019, but its preferences only apply between countries whose tariff offers are in effect: check with your freight forwarder.
Do your offers include transport to Freetown?
Yes: our offers are made delivered to the port of Freetown, on CFR or CIF terms, from Radès (Tunis) or Sfax, with transhipment depending on the shipping line. FOB departure is available on request. Transport beyond the port is assessed separately.
Can you group several products or send small quantities?
Yes. Several product families can share the same 20 or 40-foot container; small volumes can travel as groupage, and urgent small quantities by air from Tunis-Carthage, on request.
